Assembling a Mental Toolkit

Week 1 in review:

You did the assigned reading and viewing that introduces the themes and ideas from science fiction writer Ted Chiang's short story "Liking What You See." It is from (a) the story's themes and ideas -- and from (b) your understanding of wicked problems that you'll assemble your Week 3 "Science, Fiction, and the Utopian Impulse" Module Project.
You also contributed to the class's shared pool of knowledge and observations of the story (and it's meaning and real-world implications) by participating in the Perusall annotation and conversation work. This annotation and conversation work helps you to find your view and voice in exchanges with other thinkers.

Week 2 Overview: A mental toolkit:

Your job in Week 2 is to do that work that prepares you for success in your "Science, Fiction, and the Utopian Impulse" Module Project that is due at the end of Week 3. You'll spend Week 2 building a vocabulary of words, ideas, and practices that will position you for success.

You have watched the short "Wicked Problems" video but there is more to know and say about how the "wicked problem" concept helps us to think about science (and scientific innovation) in the context of human societies. Read the Wicked Problems Defined assignment and then review and revise the wicked problems examples that you provided after watching the Wicked Problems video.
